About Areopagus Hill

Perched between the Acropolis and the Agora, Areopagus Hill offers more than just a great workout for your calves; it's a summit of legal and mythological legend.

In ancient times, this was the spot where the council of elders met to discuss matters of law and morality—and maybe sneak in a little gossip. It’s also famed as the site where the Apostle Paul delivered a rather groundbreaking sermon to the polytheistic Athenians. Today, visitors can stand atop the same rocky outcrop and deliver their own judgements—mostly about which taverna to eat at next.

Best time/season to visit:
Areopagus Hill is accessible and remarkable throughout the year, but visiting at sunrise or sunset offers dramatic views of the city framed by the soft hues of the sky.
