Augustinergasse 4, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland
Wandering around Zurich, you might encounter the Church of St. Peter and find yourself amazed by it. Today, the church is an impressive tall building with the largest tower in Europe and a beautiful Gothic architectural style.
It was not so beautiful or grandiose from the beginning though. It was built on the remains of an 8th or 9th-century church believed to be a temple to Jupiter. Over the years it was constructed and redesigned in the architectural styles popular at those times until it reached its final shape. The Swiss are proud of their religious legacy and recommend visiting their cathedrals as the Church of St. Peter is just one of the four main churches of the old town, besides Grossmünster, Fraumünster, and Predigerkirche.
