Pont des Arts, 75006 Paris, France
The Pont des Arts bridge is famous in France and worldwide because couples swear eternal love to one another by putting locks on it and throwing the key in the Seine. This gesture is meant to symbolize their eternal love.
Initially, the bridge was built to be a pedestrian link over the Seine that would resemble a garden, with trees and benches for the Parisians. Unfortunately, its sophisticated look has been severely affected by World War I but reconstructed identically in the late 20th century. Like Pont Neuf, it used to be a social beacon for artists who started to exhibit their masterpieces or “chefs d’oeuvres” as the french like to say. Now, due to its magnificent view over the city and its natural appeal, the bridge is the place for romantic walks, street artists and picnics.
