Checkpoint Charlie

A monument of great historical significance, Checkpoint Charlie is the name given by the Western Allies to the most popular crossing point of the Berlin Wall during the Cold War. Also known as Checkpoint C, this monument marked the connecting between East and West Berlin. Checkpoint Charlie is best known for the incident in 1961 when US and Soviet tanks had a stand-off on the two sides of this crossing. Fortunately, the incident did not escalate and both parties withdrew their tanks.
